Over the last few years, taking dogs into schools has been a growing trend in the UK. With massive success in addressing both pupils and staff anxiety and stress. To be an effective part of the school classroom environment and depending on the dog, different levels of training will be required.
The most successful school dogs seem to come from breeds already often used as service dogs – Labradors, Labradoodles, Golden Retrievers and Jack Russells have a great track record. Due to this, we recommend introducing a potential school dog at a young age so they are able to grow up in the school environment and learn to be socially confident with a mix of ages, not react badly to loud noises or sudden movement, and enjoy being touched, stroked and petted.

Consultancy For School Dogs
Star Pawformers also offers a consultancy service for schools thinking of bringing a dog into educational settings. With this, we objectively assess whether the dog in question is suitable for the role and help you plan how to work with your dog’s strengths whilst assessing any potential risks for the dog, handler and general public.
Our aim is to help the handlers learn observational skills and understand canine body language to ensure the dog is always protected and ensure their welfare is a top priority, whilst providing a supportive role and help with any training needs throughout the process.
