Kate

Director and Head Trainer

I’m Kate, director and Head Trainer at Star Pawformers. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT01358) as well as an ABTC (Animal Behaviour and Training Council) Registered Animal Training Instructor. I am a signatory of the UK Dog behaviour and training charter that provides assurance to the public that the practitioner is a part of a reputable accrediting member organisation. I am accredited as a Force Free Trick Training Instructor as well as an accredited Canine Hoopers UK Instructor.
I am passionate about regularly updating my practical and theoretical knowledge and skills to ensure that my methods are both current and progressive.

I teach all levels of obedience, specialist workshops, trick and hoopers classes as well as offering 121 training and behavioural sessions for dogs needing more individual attention or that are unsuitable or struggle within a class environment. I am the main instructor for the Star Pawformers Kids n K9’s programme and love working with both the children and dogs, watching relationships develop is magical and a privilege to be a part of. I have had great success working individually with kids and parents to resolve fear issues with dogs as well as help with management of family dogs within the home and prevent potentially dangerous interactions between children and the family dog.

I have lectured at Reaseheath College on practical dog training skills and behaviour modification. Most recently I have been asked to partner up with Big Bark Events to become the Activities Coordinator for all future events.

I have two very cheeky cockerpoos, Alfie the genius of the two and Waffle the baby with a head full of rainbows. They both bring and amazing amount of fun and laughter to my life. I love to train with them both in various different activities, they have taught me that the best way to get results is to make training as fun as possible.

I have trained with my dogs in various activities such as Tricks, Heelwork to Music, Agility, Hoopers, Competitive Obedience, KCGCDS Gold Award, Flyball, Treiball, scentwork and rally.

My particular passions are clicker training, shaping, tricks and training with games and play. I believe everybody should be made to feel like a somebody and all of my teaching is approached with kindness and empathy for both the dogs and people. By incorporating tricks and play into obedience training we change peoples focus from the negative to the positive and help mould the owner and dog into a team built from respect, trust and effective communication. I like to train in a way that is sensitive, fun and enhances the bond and relationship between handler and dog. I’m passionate about helping owners understand their dogs and train in a way that is enjoyable and fun for both. By creating a safe environment, people and dogs feel comfortable to learn, exercises can be adapted for different teams and progression is set at a pace that suits them.
