If your puppy keeps repeating behaviours that you don’t like such as stealing shoes, its important that we make changes to their environment to prevent them going wrong in the future and also help them to choose behaviours we like best, that pay them well 🐶
In this instance making sure that shoes are put away and unavailable to the puppy prevents them from making a mistake in the future. Ensuring they have a good supply of items that you are happy for them to chew and praising and interacting with them when they choose these objects, makes it more likely that your puppy will choose these items in the future and gives them an outlet for their need to chew.
Your puppy is not intentionally choosing to be naughty, they are just choosing behaviours that feel good to them – shoes left around are fair game, chewing them helps with their teething pain and to them they smell oh so yummy 🐾
